The Kramer Vineyards 2007 Barrel Select Pinot Noir teases the senses with its earthy, smoky, tree-sap aromas that coax you on to flavors of dried cherries, tart rhubarb and cranberries. Medium-light in body with a clear, medium-garnet hue, the wine offers balance with easy tannins and slight acidity. A second taste introduces strawberries, Bing cherries, truffles and slight vanilla, followed by a long, spicy finish.

For an 07, this is drinking very well. I liked the earthy, forest-floor notes on the bouquet. It still has vibrant acid, full of cherry and plum skin. There's a roundness from the oak treatment that helps tame the tannin, creating a lovely mouthfeel.
