From Garage to Warehouse, Wine Geeks and Soccer Hooligans Produce Small-Batch Award-Winning Artisan Wines

Kevin Ross and Bob Switzer met on the soccer pitch, where they found, in addition to their love for the game, they shared a passion for wine and science (Bob's an engineer, and Kevin is a patent attorney).
Kevin introduced Bob to his garage-tinkering. This was not your typical Saturday afternoon tinkering, but tinkering with grapes and yeast, precision and quality, which became a mutually shared obsession for crafting the finest wine possible. Soon, Bob was studying winemaking through the rigorous UC Davis Extension program.
Having abandoned the garage, Seven Bridges Winery makes its home in an industrial area of Portland, Oregon and takes its name from the seven bridges that span the Willamette River there. Bob and Kevin love drinking rich, full-bodied red wines, and that's exactly the kind of wine they produce.
Seven Bridges wines feature substantial style and complex flavors, developed from grapes sourced from premium Northwest vineyards. These are hand-sorted, then small-batch fermented and pressed gently before aging in new French and American oak barrels. Kevin and Bob's obsession for quality is measured by their patience. Rather than rushing to release, they utilize extended maceration techniques and long barrel-aging, ensuring wines that deliver on their promise.
The result? Purely delicious, expressive and intensive handcrafted artisan reds.
Seven Bridges truly is a small family business, involving two families. Kevin’s wife Jill (the third partner in Seven Bridges) contributes organization, rallies the troops and provides the occasional reality check. And both Bob and Kevin's children can be found sorting (sometimes tasting!) grapes as they come in from harvest.
Seven Bridges' first vintage was 2008, which they began selling (and selling out of due to sales propelled by early and prestigious awards) in early 2011. Though increasing production each year, Seven Bridges Winery handcrafts in small batches, producing extremely limited quantities. You'll want to get your hands on some while you can!
