Early Oregon Winery Kramer Vineyards Keeps Artisan Winemaking in the Family with Handcrafted Estate Wines

Kramer Vineyards' beautiful grapes produce beautiful artisan wines

Trudy and Keith Kramer are practically Oregon wine pioneers. A mere 5 years after The Eyrie Vineyards and David Lett brought international acclaim upon Oregon as a world-class region for Pinot Noir, the Kramers planted their first vineyard.

Kramer Vineyards 22-acres can be found among Oregon's northernmost Willamette Valley wineries in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA. When the Kramers purchased the farm in 1983, it had been fallow for at least seven years. Blackberry brambles, clover, daisies and onions grew with wild abandon. Literally.

But underneath that wild mess was an ideal slope and silty clay loam Peavine and Willakenzie soils ... superior for growing wine grapes.

Each of the Kramer Vineyards wines represents a true expression of varietal, vineyard and vintage. Focused on handcrafting estate-driven wines that preserve the integrity of the fruit, the Kramers manage the entire winemaking process -- from the sustainably grown vineyards to the bottle -- using minimalistic, empirically based methods.

Although Kramer Vineyards was started almost three decades ago by Trudy and Keith Kramer, each of whom makes wine, they're definitely passing their passion on to the next generation. Daughter Kimberly Kramer Krieger also makes Kramer Vineyards wine, most notably the Domaine Krieger Brut, which bears her name. Another daughter, Rebecca Kramer, often works in the tasting room and captures many of the Kramer Vineyards moments on film.

If there's a mantra that guides Kramer Vineyards' winemaking, it's that great winemaking starts in the vineyard and great wines come from great fruit. You'll taste that mantra in every glass.
